Function and style is a challenge for the home office; especially for home office storage.
Whatever your filing style you need at least one file cabinet. But if you need to place that file cabinet where everyone can see it, your home office is in a multi-function room, or you want a more stylish home office, the standard metal clunker won’t do.Furniture makers have become aware of this situation and now have wood veneer file cabinets disguised as end tables, credenzas and bureaus. These stylish storage filing units look good anywhere. As an end table in a living room, family room or bedroom. As a foyer launch pad.
When choosing any kind of file storage – especially furniture-style storage – be sure it:
- Holds enough files to meet your needs. Many furniture-style file units hold less than metal file cabinets. Take this into account.
- Has solid suspension hardware to support the drawer and the weight of the files. Cheap hardware means headaches down the line
- Does both jobs equally well – looks good and allows you to easily access your files. File cabinet benches look like a good solution, but if you’re like me, you’ll have to clear-off a pile of stuff to open the bench and access your files. A file bench only works well with rarely accessed archive files.
