Phone Book Clutter in Your Home Office: Green Solutions

How many phone books do you have in your  home office? How many do you actually use? Do you have out-dated directories or out-dated out-of-town phone books? Where do you store them? They are not only bulky and heavy, but they are floppy.

Do you realize that it take 19 million trees annually to make phone directories in the US?  Not to mention the fuel needed to manufacture and distribute them. With the world wide web, Google 411, Google Maps and computer and smartphone Contacts organizers do you really need a phone book? The only contemporary use for a phone book, is as a booster for a small child, as a booster for your computer monitor (ergonomics) or if you press flowers.

Verizon is petitioning the SCC to allow them to set up an opt-in request program for distribution of phone directories. But you can opt out of receiving a phone book today with a few clicks of your mouse.  Go to YellowPagesOptOut.com, enter your zip code and click on the distributors listed.

If you need information about recycling your phone books you can find resources in your area at Earth 911.com

Not only will you free up space in your office, but you will also make the planet a little  greener.

Now, excuse me while I recycle a few old phone books.
